Hydrogen is considered one of the keys to reconciling security of supply in the energy sector and climate neutrality in the long term, not only in Europe. Ideas and projects for the decentralized use of hydrogen in the energy mix of the future are also emerging in Japan. The energy service provider Erex is now adding a 2G hydrogen CHP unit to its portfolio for the first time in order to be able to reliably supply energy at all times.

In Fuji Yoshida City in Yamanashi Prefecture, 2G Energy AG recently commissioned another hydrogen-powered cogeneration plant. The agenitor 412 CHP plant has an electrical output of 320 kW and feeds renewable electricity into the local grid in order to strengthen security of supply in the rural region. The CHP is operated by the energy service provider Erex, which has specialized in the development of innovative and increasingly climate-neutral supply concepts for years. In addition to the new hydrogen CHP, Erex's portfolio also includes five biomass power plants.

Many years of experience with hydrogen are helping the market ramp up

The first 2G hydrogen CHP unit was commissioned in 2014, meaning that we now have many years of experience in the decentralized and highly efficient use of

Hydrogen via CHP technology exists. For Andre Banken, head of international business development at 2G, the project fits seamlessly into the company's development history: “Since the company was founded in 1995, we have been intensively involved in the use of various renewable gases of different qualities. In the current phase of the global ramp-up of the hydrogen economy, the expertise we have gained over the years is now playing a huge role in our hands, so that we can already implement corresponding projects in a standardized manner today.”

Hydrogen is a global issue for 2G

The cogeneration plant that has now gone into operation underlines once again the fact that hydrogen is one of the central future topics in the energy industry around the world. For 2G, however, the project is now one of many international hydrogen projects, as CEO Christian Grotholt emphasizes: “With the help of our dense sales and service network around the world, in addition to some projects in Germany, we have now been able to develop hydrogen projects in Dubai, the UK, the USA and some realize more in Japan. That alone shows the global dimension that the topic has now reached for us.”
